Hook and Crown – 3.9 Stars
(I know, I know.. why not just go with 4… I’ll explain in a min.. Don’t get it twisted though, I loved it.)

You’ve heard of Neverland and its inhabitants… Fairies, pirates, mermaids and a boy who didn’t want to grow up. But you can’t always believe the stories.

Elena Hart arrives in London, bound for a new boarding school operated by her estranged uncle. A fresh start is exactly what she needs. But when strange things begin happening, things she can’t explain, she begins to wonder if she has lost her mind.
Until the night a strange girl appears in her room, claiming to be a fairy from Neverland, come to take her to the fantasy world at the request of its ruler.
Skeptical, Elena refuses. But the following night, a young man with strange green eyes appears, and though she tries to resist his charms, something about him draws her in and Elena is whisked away from the world she knows, to a world she always thought was make believe.
But when she arrives in Neverland, it is nothing like the stories and Elena realizes that she must figure out for herself who the true heroes and villains are.

My Review: We have a 17 year old (Elena) who is off to college , upon arriving , she meets Peter and Tinkerbell. Or at least , that’s how she knows them from her childhood books. In this reality, they are known as Aiden and Tatiana. He has been watching her for a while now, and they invite her to visit their land.

Naturally, she accepts to leave everything behind and go on this adventure to Neverland. I mean, wouldn’t you?

It is whilst in Neverland that start to discover the truth about this enchanted land, it’s magic, and it’s people. After arriving, this is where we meet Hook, which is actually known as Will. I absolutely loved him because his narrative reminds me alot of Killian (Hook) fro Once upon a time. I literally hear his voice in my head.. hmm.. so nice.

To die would be an awfully big adventure. And I’m not quite done with this one yet – Will

The book is written in first person and third person breaks as well. I found it neat to get a little more info from certain scenes from different vantage points.

There are twists in the story that I loved because we all know the Peter Pan story all too well. (And it is my top 2 favorite stories) But it was refreshing and I enjoyed this massively!

I honestly took longer to read this one solely because I didn’t want it to end. I wanted to stay on the Jolly Roger with Hook forever.

Now, why did I give it a 3.9 and now a full 4? I just felt things went too quickly. Which isn’t a bad thing for some people. But I personally love little extra details and slow build up. That’s just me. I like torture lol I wanted more interaction between certain characters. Maybe even a little more graphic, if ya know what I mean (wink). I loved being in Neverland in my head, I jst want the story to keep going, or at least fill in more spaces.

Elena, is our MC and honestly, I wanted to punch her sometimes.. alot of the time… But that’s expected because she’s 17 and knows nothing about life lol.

All in all, it was a very fun read and I am excited for a sequel . Fingers crossed!!!

I want to thank the publisher, The Parliament House Press, for blessing me with an eArc of this book as it was on y top 3 most anticipated reads for the year.

Hook and crown will be released June 11th. I hope you all pick it up!

Love, JennieFromTheBook
